Have Bobbi Kristina & Nick Gordon Split?

It looks like Bobbi Kristina Brown and Nick Gordon may have called it quits. The couple, who announced their engagement on Lifetime’s The Houstons: On Our Own, took to Twitter to say they are no longer together. It is unclear how long Brown, 19, and her informally-adopted brother Gordon, 22, were romantically involved. But, their relationship made national headlines especially after her mother’s death and theirrumored engagement, which Brown’s aunt denied. Brown appeared to be telling her side of the breakup story through a series of tweets. “Who do I trust in this world? Pfft well that’s easy beezie, #Myself,” she tweeted. “That’s incredibly fine… Because you’d be missing out on a #REALperson,” she wrote with the hashtags: #onmyown #goingtomakeit and #determined. Just before the holidays, Gordon confirmed rumors of their breakup as well. “@REALbkBrown and I are not engaged or dating. Just close like we have always been,” he tweeted. Brown concluded her Twitter rant by saying, “I guess it’s time for me to stop depending on anyone. It’s my time to follow what Mom & The Lord put out on this path for me. #Thankful. Mom xxo.”

Swizz Beatz Buys 150 Copies of Alicia Keys’ New Album

Alicia Keys’ huge fan base includes more than 10 million Twitter followers and 1.3 million Instagram followers, but her biggest fan is still her husband, producer Swizz Beatz. Yesterday, Keys’ fifth studio album, Girl on Fire, dropped and Beatz did his best to promote his wife’s project—buying several copies of the album. “Ok I might get stan of the year award! So what! I just got 150 copies to give out 2 fans,” he tweeted. That followed a series of album-related tweets declaring Keys’ latest installment a “classic.” Keys tweeted sheer happiness for the support: “I swear I love this man with all of me!” Their love came to life at last night’s iHeartRadio concert for Hurricane Sandy first responders. During the 13-song set, Keys often looked off to the side of the stage and gazed into the eyes of Beatz during a number of her signature hits. But perhaps the most adorable moment of the night came when their son, Egypt, joined Keys on stage during “No One” for a mommy-mushy moment that left everyone saying “awe.” SOURCE

Special Election To Replace Jesse Jackson Jr. Will Showcase New Urban Political Landscape

In 2011, as Illinois politicians redrew congressional district maps, they exercised a power grab that was intended to protect those already in office or even gain more seats for Democrats. Officials split some of the state’s growing Latino population between districts already represented by Democrats and those where they hoped to see Republicans lose. An incumbent Democrat like former Chicago-area Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. was supposed to have little problem holding a seat that for three decades has been held by an African-American. But in 2011, no one knew then that Jackson would spend a portion his term in seclusion trying to manage a mental illness. And no one knew that, after winning reelection earlier this month, Jackson would resign amid allegations of misappropriated campaign funds. Now, with Jackson out and Illinois set to stage a special election in February, Jackson’s former district could end up being represented by a white Democrat from Chicago’s suburbs. And for the crowded field of mostly black candidates that have expressed interest in Jackson’s old job, winning support of Latino voters and at least a smattering of white voters may be the key to victory. “Ironically, because of redistricting, what has long been a seat held by a black politician is going to require a black candidate that can bring together a kind of Barack Obama pan-ethnic coalition just to maintain the status quo,” said Laura Washington, a political consultant and former political science professor at De Paul University.
