Ethics Trouble Not Over for Jesse Jackson Jr.

Jesse Jackson Jr.’s resignation from Congress might end his once-promising political career but it doesn’t mark the end of troubles for the civil rights icon’s son. Just two weeks after voters re-elected him to a ninth full term, Jackson on Wednesday sent his resignation letter to House Speaker John Boehner, citing his ongoing treatment for bipolar disorder and admitting “my share of mistakes” while confirming publicly for the first time that he’s the subject of a federal probe and cooperating with investigators. Federal authorities are reportedly investigating Jackson’s possible misuse of campaign funds and the House Ethics Committee is investigating his dealings with imprisoned ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. It was unclear how the committee would proceed following Jackson’s resignation. The committee could still decide to release a final report on him but it no longer has the power to punish Jackson. Jackson, 47, was never charged with wrongdoing and in his resignation letter wrote, “they are my mistakes and mine alone.” Jackson’s attorneys offered few details of the reported probe into misuse of campaign funds. “Mr. Jackson is cooperating with the investigation. We hope to negotiate a fair resolution of the matter but the process could take several months,” according to a statement from Jackson’s attorneys, including former U.S. Attorney in Chicago Dan Webb. “During that time, we will have no further comment and urge you to give Mr. Jackson the privacy he needs to heal and handle these issues responsibly.” CONTINUE READING

Halle Berry’s Ex Hospitalized After Fight With Her Fiance

Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, was taken to a hospital and then arrested after a fistfight with the actress’ current fiance, Olivier Martinez. The fight broke out between the men at Berry’s home just before 10 a.m. today, reported ABC News station KABC in Los Angeles. Aubry was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in L.A. with fractured ribs and bruising to his face. Martinez injured his hand and neck but the extent of his injuries was unclear, KABC reported. It was unclear what started the fight, but Los Angeles police told KABC that Martinez “apparently gave back more than Gabriel dished out.” After the hospital treatment, police held Aubry on a charge of misdemeanor battery, with bail set at $20,000, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mike Odle told ABC News Radio. Berry saw the beginning of the fight when Aubry pushed Martinez, according to KABC, and then she left to call 911. Berry and Aubry’s daughter, Nahla, 4, did not witness any of the fight. Afterwards, a judge issued an emergency protective order to keep Aubry at least 100 yards away from Berry, Martinez and Nahla until Dec. 3, KABC reported. The 46-year-old Berry recently endured a difficult custody battle with the 36-year-old Aubry. Earlier this month, a judge denied the actress’ request to move to Francewith Nahla – a court victory for Aubry. He argued the move to France would have been punitive and was designed to stop him from having contact with his daughter.

CHRIS BROWN’S REP SAYS HE DID NOT CANCEL GUYANA CONCERT BECAUSE OF PROTESTORS

The people of Guyana may not have been happy to see Chris Brown perform because of the 2009 incident with ex-girlfriend Rihanna but the singer’s camp assures he did not cancel the show out of fear. The Huffington Post reported that Breezy didn’t touch the stage in Guyana because womens’ rights groups were protesting his presence and would not welcome him into the country. His rep says that’s false. “This concert was never confirmed,” Brown’s rep tells E! News. “The promoter is being untruthful.” When it comes to Brown, little is ever a sure thing, like his current relationship with Rihanna, especially after tag teaming on Rih’s Unapologetic track “Nobody’s Business.” But that’s a story for another day.
