FILM AFRICA 2012

Now in its second year, Film Africa is bringing together 70 films and more than 30 visiting filmmakers in London from November 1 to 11. The festival, happening in venues across town, is becoming a centrifugal point for African cinema in the capital and also proving to be a much-needed springboard for films from the continent. Last year’s Film Africa Silver Baobab Award winner, Rungano Nyoni, went on to earn a BAFTA nomination, while the support of Film Africa was crucial in helping secure the mainstream release of Ethiopian film The Athlete by Davey Frankel and Rasselas Lakew. “We are privileged to present the best of contemporary African film for the second year running,” said festival co-directors Lindiwe Dovey and Namvula Rennie. “Our aim is to be a platform for alternative narratives of Africa.” To find out more about this year’s screenings and events, visit filmafrica.org.uk
